Yep sawdust would work. Doesn't need to be damp, just make smaller holes in the alfoil.

Hi guys, I live in the Adelaide Hills and would be looking to get some saddleback piglets. Anybody no any breeders around here. I would settle for other breeds if I can't get a saddleback. Looking to fatten them up for eating. Have about 1000sq mtre of land to run them on. Does anyone have any idea how many you could run on this size area. Have plenty of excess veg to supplement their feeding.

here's what the local wild fair looks like, the one hanging was 96kg and the combined weight was 189kg
they were ridden with worms and were not fit to eat. least the mob is less two.

Shame about the worms..... I've heard about worms in wild pig and I have wondered, are they in the actual flesh, the meat?

they were working on it. at the start of the viscera you expose the spine in the pelvic cavity, usually this is covered with a thin layer of membrane as is the entire internal cavity is. the worms had eaten this away and the spine was bare bone. this pig would have been eaten alive from the inside out. in a 5x5cm space you could find 12 or more worms ranging from 2cm down to 1mm.....nasty.
the pigs had been trapped and kept in a muddy pen. i feel sure that had they been fresh caught or shot in the wild this would have not been the case.

my GF asked for a teacup pig once
i think my reply of 'sure, they look about perfect size for s bacon brekkie' put her off
have to say, i completely agree with culling the wild, non-native pigs. but only in humane ways. no animal, native or otherwise, deserves to suffer

In Australia there are worms called trichonosis [sp], they can migrate anywhere in the body starting from the stomach.
Infected meat would have to be cooked for hours to kill the worms, they are in Kangaroos, wallabies and wild pigs.
