I like that idea of a funnel around the spray nozzle.
I wouldnt use carpet as there are lots of nasties in them, and as they disintergrate threads of polyester or whatever will be everywhere.
Im not sold on wood chips around fruit trees as they suck lots of nitrogen from the soil in the decomposition process
If you live in a frost free zone pinto peanuts are sensational.....easy to grow, spread, always green, supply nitrogen, only grow to about 25 cms high, so no mowing, can be grazed and best of all smother most weeds.

Well Charlie, in a word…..NO. Really the grass just takes over unless we really keep on top of it! What we do now is use the little tiller we have and till/cultivate the grass so it is easier to pull out, then mulch it. That keeps it clear for a while longer. As the trees are growing we are less concerned!

Thanks. Im not sure what type of grass we have but there is a section that we removed to make level for a farm gate about 3 months ago, the grass hasnt grown back in there yet so hopefully ours isnt as invasive as kikuyu.
