Hey Gnash, just checked out, thoroughly, where you live via the link you sent.

NICE PLOT OF LAND!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap, that would take some effort to be 'productive'!

It says you are leasing but what happens when you the property is sold? You homeless?

Ive just bought myself a new backyard, been looking for couple of years after selling my last place.
The soil is meters deep rich red volcanic, frost free in lovely surroundings.
Its a blank canvas as they say for gardening atm, but will slowly change that. Does have nice selection of citrus trees and other tropical fruits plus a mature pecan grove.....and that's pretty cool.
Umm....is 5 acres considered a backyard ???

Yep, only about 10kms from last place but a whole different thing.
Last place was 10 acres of mature real rainforest, steep and too shady for growing much. This place is relatively flat with open paddocks all round, will get some pics up when things start to happen

These are pecan trees, not sure what the return from them will be.

we harvested 909kg off 17 trees last season an never touched the ones out back. pecans bear heavy every other season if left to their own, better if you care for them. watch out for the "drop bears" tho.....

damn....you mean those drop bears steal the nuts too ??? Ah....nothing a shotgun wont fix !!

Have to ask you BW, how do you harvest your pecans, do you use a tree shaker?

Can hire one here but was thinking of mowing the grass really short around the trees at harvest time and just raking them up everyday.

Do fully agree, dropbears are nasty when hungry.

$120k for my 60ish hectares. No services so when we build our house (hope to start this year) it will be solar passive design, with Solar Array, Wind Generator plus battery storage, Rain Water Tanks and onsite waste water treatment system.

Location is approximately 1hr 45mins from Perth near a small country Town named Dowerin (we are about 7km before the town)

The soil is clay but can still grow a good crop.

There isn't many trees but I am planning on changing that soon with some 40,000 seedlings to be planted - unfortuantely I missed the cut off date for this years planting so it will have to be next year.

The salt lake is next door - it does hit our land a little bit - and the water table in the north west corner is just (millimetres) below the surface. Hopefully by planting trees and getting the neighbours to do the same we can reduce the size of the salt lake.
